RTR FrontPage Server Extensions for:
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Microsoft Windows 8
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

Things To Consider Before Purchasing RTR's FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 8.5, IIS 8 and IIS 7.5

The RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 8.5, IIS 8 and IIS 7.5 (the "FPSE") only allow an IIS 8.5, IIS 8 or IIS 7.5 server to fulfill FrontPage requests.  The FPSE do not enable aging clients to function locally on a Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 system.  In particular, old versions of Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Expression Web, and Microsoft Visual Studio may have compatibility issues that prevent them from fully functioning when installed and run locally on a Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 system.

Put more simply:

The following scenario should work without any flaws:

  • Using the FPSE on an IIS 8.5, IIS 8 or IIS 7.5 server via Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Expression Web, and/or Microsoft Visual Studio clients running on their supported operating systems.

The following scenarios might have issues:

  • Using older versions of Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Expression Web, and/or Microsoft Visual Studio running on Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, or any unsupported system while opening webs on the local server.
  • Using older versions of Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Expression Web, and/or Microsoft Visual Studio running on Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, or any unsupported system while opening webs on a remote server.

Therefore, when evaluating the RTR FPSE 2002 for IIS 8.5, IIS 8 or IIS 7.5, please be sure to use a client that you know works.  If you can use your client to create, open, and work with a non-local web running on any earlier version of the FPSE (e.g. the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista, the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003), then your client should be able to create, open, and work with a non-local web using the RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 8 .5, the RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 8 or the RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 7.5.

Please be sure to test your configuration using the free 30-day evaluation.

Furthermore, if you can use your current client to reach a previous version of the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on a non-local machine, but this same exact copy of the client (running on the same machine) cannot reach the RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 8.5, the RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 8 or the RTR FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 for IIS 7.5, we would be interested to know about this; please report this problem to .

Please note, however, that RTR cannot support old versions of Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Expression Web, and/or Microsoft Visual Studio.

For example, the following issue is an example of the problems you may see caused by aging clients:

FrontPage 2002 (Office XP) Client

If installed in a 64 bit environment, this client will work well for disk-based webs.  It will also open a web site via HTTP using the FPSE, but whenever the file open/save dialog appears, you will receive one "out of memory" error for each file that it displays, and then the dialog will shut down before you can open or save any file.  This problem occurs anytime you open a web via the http: or https: protocol; it occurs both when you open a local and a remote server, and it occurs when using both the RTR FPSE 2002 and all versions of Microsoft FPSE 2002.  This issue makes it difficult to use FrontPage 2002 to edit HTTP-based webs.
